The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission (TRRC) has launched two new programs, the Talent Attraction Program (TAP) and the Health Occupations State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP), which will be an incentive to your members in hiring and retaining staff.
TAP’s purpose is to encourage recent graduates to live in the Tobacco Region and work in hard-to-fill occupations in the Tobacco Region for a minimum of 2 years while providing them up to $12,000 annually in student loan repayments (with a $24,000 loan repayment commitment). Individuals approved for this incentive will be required to maintain fulltime employment in a specified occupation and be civically engaged in their community. We are currently taking application for this program with a September 15th deadline!
We have also partnered with Virginia Department of Health who currently manages the SLRP program which targets hard-to-fill health occupations in our region in order to improve and increase access to quality healthcare. They allow up to $140,000 in loan repayments over a 4 year period in specified healthcare occupations. Individuals approved for this incentive will be required to work in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas within the Tobacco Region, have to be board eligible or certified and will be required to live in the Tobacco Region as well. This will open for applications in January.
Talent Sectors:
Our organization has sought to accelerate regional transformation by giving citizens expansive opportunities for education and employment while retaining and expanding much needed business sectors. These programs aim to further that vision!
